RC Shelter Advocate Part-time

COMPENSATION Hourly, Non-Exempt with no Benefits – PRN, Predominantly Weekend 12 Hour Shifts and Holidays Hourly Rate Range:  $15.00 – $25.00  

General Job Description:

Responsible for shelter activities and direct service to residents during shift, maintaining constant coverage of the crisis line and shelter, and ensuring safety at the shelter.  Employed by the Assistant Director but reports to the Sexual Assault Program and Shelter Manager (SASH) for guidance, supervision, and evaluation.       

Qualifications for Position:

  • Completion of a high school or general equivalency diploma (GED).required.
  • Computer skills sufficient to participate in webinars, utilize work email, and enter data into the Case Worthy program management software program accurately and timely.    
  • Working knowledge of domestic violence and advocacy of its survivors.
  • Ability to work sensitively with traumatized adults.
  • Ability to work well independently with integrity and as a team member.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse staff, volunteers, and residents.
  • Dependable transportation and valid GA Driver’s License.    
  • CPR and First Aid training preferred or will be mandated initial training.
  • A physical exam, drug screening and criminal record check are required prior to shift work.

Job Responsibilities and Performance Standards

  • Provide shelter service to residents on during the week as needed, including staffing of the Crisis Line at all times.
  • Document shelter activities in logbook, including resident logs and records..
  • Screen referrals and admit incoming residents per resident intake guidelines; coordinate delivery of resident with law enforcement; have all applicable forms signed, assign room, provide, and explain Resident Handbook.
  • Provide advocacy-based counseling to victims of abuse in an emergency setting.
  • Provide crisis intervention and conflict resolution with residents.
  • Model non-violent conflict resolution and use non-violent forms of guidance.
  • Model and actively promote positive, nurturing interactions between residents. 
  • Arrange essential resident transportation.
  • Assists SASH with food inventory.
  • Promote cooperative and sharing relationships among residents.
  • Maintain safety and security of shelter.  Conduct house security checks of the premises with hourly walk through and documentation.
  • Perform routine chores and cleaning tasks assigned by shift to ensure safety and cleanliness of the shelter.
  • Remain knowledgeable of shelter and agency guidelines and procedures so that independent decisions may be made in emergency as well as daily situations.
  • Complete exit surveys for residents moving out of the shelter. Clean rooms after residents leave.
  • Complete all paperwork by end of shift.
  • Maintain shelter residential and office spaces: stock supplies, stock personal care supplies, identify forms that need copying, create new resident files, shred documents, etc. as specified by the SASH.
  • Participate in scheduled staff meetings and communicate pertinent resident information to the Resident Services Advocate and SASH.
  • Attend all trainings required by the organization.
  • Participate in RCPCH outreach events/activities.
  • Adhere to agency policies and work rules including confidentiality, child abuse reporting and code of ethics.  Maintain professional boundaries with shelter residents.   
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by the SASH/Executive/Assistant Director.
